Time To Be Dad

My Adoption Story

Ross realised he was gay at the age of twenty. At that time he did not think it possible that he would ever start a family of his own. But the idea never went away entirely.

Eight years later he had met and married Pete, and the question of parenthood returned to the fore. Supported by family, friends, foster carers and social workers, Ross and Pete began to navigate the long road which would eventually lead to their son, ‘Moose’.

Time To Be Dad is Ross’s account of his experiences during the adoption process, taken from the journal he kept throughout. A valuable resource for foster carers, social workers, prospective adopters and those who support them, full of heartwarming insights into what it really means to build a family.

"Wight has an easy personable style, with a logical order and a warm way of communicating. This account is honest, and in places pretty raw. This family had a very different journey to mine, but somethings are universal.

It does a great job of the differences in parenting a birth child versus the needs of adopted one, which is very useful for families to understand.

All in all, definitely worth a read to hear one perspective on becoming a parent."
